Panels that pass each other on the track

Sliding Closet Doors

We build sliding bypass closet doors to your opening and install them throughout Orange County — panels that slide past one another, with nothing swinging out into the room.

Family owned and operated. Installed by our own crew, never a subcontractor. California license #908184.

How we approach sliding closet doors

Bypass is the configuration most Orange County closets already have: two or more panels hung on parallel tracks, each one sliding behind the next. Nothing swings out, so it works where a bed, a dresser or a narrow hallway sits right up against the opening. The trade is access — with two panels you reach half the opening at a time, with three on a double track roughly two thirds. If you need the whole opening clear at once, hinged doors are the better answer and we will say so at the measure. Ours hang top-hung, so the weight sits in the header and there is no bottom track collecting dust along the floor. The panel is where the decision is: mirror, glass, shaker, raised panel, louver, flush or true shoji all run on the same mechanism.

What's included

  • Built to your exact opening, not cut down from stock
  • Two, three or four panels depending on the width
  • Top-hung tracks with no bottom rail along the floor
  • Mirror, glass, painted, stain-grade, louver or shoji panels
  • Cut, sanded and finished at our shop before install day
  • Old doors and tracks hauled away the same day

How it works

Measured, built, then installed

  1. 1

We measure the opening in your home

Openings are rarely square and almost never a stock size. We measure the opening itself, check the header and the floor, and work out how many panels and how many tracks it takes.

  2. 2

Panels are built and finished at our shop

Cut, sanded, primed and painted — or stained — before anything comes to your house. Nothing is finished on site, so there is no spraying or drying time in your bedroom.

  3. 3

We install, and the old doors leave with us

The track goes into the header, the panels go on and get adjusted until they run true, and the doors and track that were there go out on our truck.

What affects the price

What moves the number

  • How wide the opening is, and how many panels it takes to cover it
  • What the panels are made of — painted wood, stain-grade, mirror, glass or shoji
  • How many tracks it runs on: two panels on a double track is the simplest case
  • Whether the header and jambs need prep before a track can go up
  • Taking out and hauling away the doors that are there now

We price the opening after we have measured it, and the number we give you is the number you pay.

Common questions

Sliding Closet Doors, answered

What is the difference between bypass and hinged doors?
Bypass panels slide past each other on parallel tracks and stay inside the opening. Hinged doors swing out into the room, so they need clearance in front of the closet but show you the whole opening at once. Bypass is the better answer where furniture sits close; hinged is better when you need to see everything at once. Both get built to the same opening, so the choice is about how you use the room rather than what fits.
How much of the closet can I reach at one time?
With two panels, about half the opening. With three panels on a double track, roughly two thirds. More panels and more tracks open up more of it, but every extra track adds depth at the header. If reaching the whole opening in one go matters to you, tell us at the measure and we will look at hinged doors instead.
Is there a track along the floor?
No. We hang sliding doors top-hung, so the weight is carried by the header and the floor stays clear. There is a small guide to keep the panels aligned, but nothing to vacuum around and nothing to catch a toe on.
Can you replace the doors without redoing the closet?
Usually, yes. Most of these jobs are the doors and the track only — the opening, the drywall and whatever is inside the closet stay as they are. If the header is out of level or the jambs have been chewed up by the old track, we will tell you what it needs before we start rather than after.
What can the panels be made of?
Framed or frameless mirror, glass in white, milky, privacy or a dark finish, painted shaker and raised panel, full louver, flush slabs, or true shoji with a synthetic rice-paper skin. The track and the mechanism stay the same across all of them.
Do you take the old doors away?
Yes. The old doors, the old track and the hardware all leave with our crew on install day, at no extra cost.
